Malacca is no doubt one of the best places to visit in Malaysia, because it has a lot of hidden gems that will make you fall in love instantly. In fact, we have to admit that it’s our favourite state in this country!

From beaches and heritage buildings to one-of-a-kind drinks and food, there’s just so much to love — especially the retro offerings.

Now that interstate travel is back on, grab your vape, take a weekend off from the fast-paced city life and visit old school cafes around Malacca.

1. Peninsular Tailor Cafe

This looks like a scene from “Kingsman: The Secret Service” movie, but the tailor shop front actually hides a cosy cafe with a nostalgic feel of the 60s-70s era.

It’s located near to the Haten Square, so you don’t need to pay for the entrance fee to get in. Make sure you try the signature Magic Coffee when you visit!

2. The Daily Fix Cafe

The Daily Fix Cafe is hidden adjacently in a Batik Shop, which gives you a true vintage feel from the moment you enter it. The interior itself is very well decorated, and it’s the perfect place to have brunch.

Of course, the food is also incredibly yummy and reasonably priced compared to other nearby places. You simply have to try the pancakes — they’re the best we’ve ever had!

The only downside is, this quirky cafe is always busy, so make sure you get there early. Overall, we’ve had a great experience here and would definitely recommend this place to youngsters, especially friends and couples.

3. Sin See Tai

It’s a quaint little shop that serves great coffee, iced teas, waffles as well as popsicles. Even in their small kitchen, their offerings are pretty spot on.

Founded by The Daily Fix Cafe, Sin See Tai is actually a smaller version of the famous cafe. Seats are limited especially during the weekends, but if you manage to get a spot, it is cozy, quiet and comfortable to have your breakfast or brunch here.

4. The Coffee Jar

The Coffee Jar, which was once an old shophouse, had underwent a major renovation to feature a rustic, industrial interior concept.

It’s not easy to find a good coffee place in Malacca, but you can trust us when we say that this is the most legit spot to relax over a cup of latte, as they serve really great coffee from different origins.

Plus, the beans are roasted in house, so you can only expect the best!

5. Locahouz

This is a cafe that serves homemade pork dishes, also known for their signature pumpkin bao, wide range of creative lattes and cheesecake in the jar.

You need no reason to drop by this cafe as everything will exceed your expectations, from their service to quality of food, and some thoughtful touch in between.

6. The Stolen Cup

The cafe interior is nicely decorated in a distinctive pseudo warehouse/bar/rustic look. Expect to see a lot of brown, done in tasteful and trendy looking setup.

In keeping with the cafe’s interior theme, the tables and chairs are made to look old and rustic too. We love it.

Overall, this is one of the more expensive cafes in Malacca, so come at your own expense — and don’t forget to try the extremely delicious Salted Egg Croissant!

7. Calanthe Art Cafe

Great place to take a break on a hot day when you’re at Jonker Street, as this place serves nice variety of coffees from different states in Malaysia.

What’s more, although the menu is larger than average for a cafe — the best-selling item at this cafe is always the Laksa.

The interior is set up beautifully with a burst of colour — made from paintings, beat up utensils as well as beach elements to keep the history of Malacca alive.

8. Backlane Coffee

This cafe is nestled within a clothing shop, which has a vintage decoration vibe going on. Meanwhile, the opposite building has beautiful green leafy vines, adding beauty to the cafe itself.

Cosy and comfortable with a touch of class — this venue is definitely the place to visit when you’re looking for a relaxing and harmonious environment. Suitable for couples, families and solo travellers.

As one of the few places in Malacca that serves mousse cakes, you simply have to visit Backlane Coffee.

9. Second Floor Coffee House

A vintage little hidden gem which began operating since 1996. Although named Second Floor, the shop is actually located on the ground floor where you can easily spot a large cute bear at the entrance.

You will find extraordinary coffee art here, but expect a slower serving time during peak hours.

This cafe gets top marks for ambiance! The natural light setting, the spacious layout, and the great design are what usually draw people in.
