4 Surprisingly Easy & Delicious Ways To Cook SPAM

Even though SPAM isn’t the most glamorous type of meat in Malaysia and is often hiding in the back of kitchen cabinets, it somehow still finds its way onto our plates.

So how can you enjoy this luncheon meat aside from on its own?

Here are 4 creative ways to dress up that controversial lunch meat so it isn’t just sitting between two sad slices of bread.

1. Spam Fries


Ingredients

1 can of Spam

2 cups panko breadcrumbs

2 eggs

1 cup flour

Cooking oil

Step-by- Step Guide

1. Slice the spurn in half length-wise and then make 4 slices width-wise to make fries.

2. Whisk the eggs in a bowl.

3. While in a separate plate, place the flour. In another plate, place the panko.

4. Coat the spam with flour, then dip into the whisked eggs, and then coat with panko – repeat until all of the spam fries are battered up.

5. Fry them in hot oil until the panko is golden and crispy.

6. Serve with sauce!

2. Spam Musubi

Ingredients

1 can of Spam sliced lengthwise

1 tsp sugar

1 tbsp rice vinegar

Pinch of salt

1 tbsp oil

1 tbsp water

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp sugar

2 strips nori

2″ wide Cooked rice

Step-by- Step Guide

1. Combine sugar, salt, and vinegar in a small bowl. Mix together. Add to cooked rice and then mix.

2. Slice spam to desired thickness, then fry. Combine water, sugar, and soy sauce in a bowl. Pour on top of the spam until mixture thickens.

3. Use the empty spam can as the mold. Line the inside with cling film, than pack the mold with rice, a piece of spam, than rice again. Push down.

4. With the cling film, take the spam musubi out of the can. Then take your nori and place the musubi without the cling film in the center.

5. Fold the sides of the nori to wrap the musubi. Seal nori with water. Serve!

3. Spam Rice Pancake

Ingredients

2 slices of Spam

1″ thick 1 scoop rice

3 eggs

3 tbsp Spam

3 tbsp onion chopped

2 tsp spring onion

2 tsp corn

2 tsp jalaperio (optional)

Salt

Step-by- Step Guide

1. Slice spam and cut a square shape in the center.

2. Put 1 portion rice, jalaperio, onion, spring onion, corn, 3 tbsp. spam, eggs, and salt in a bowl. Mix well.

3. Heat oil in pan and fry the square-shaped spam.

4. Pour the rice mix inside the empty square and cook until light brown. Flip and cook. Serve!

4. Spam – don

Ingredients

1 can of Spam

Instant pancit canton

Cheese (optional)

Spring onions (optional)

Step-by- Step Guide

1. Cook your instant pancit canton to desired taste.

2. Chop Spam into large cubes. Heat oil in a separate pan, and fry the cubes.

3. Place on top of your pancit canton.

4. Add cheese, spring onions, or other preferred toppings. Serve!
