Coming in all different colours, shapes and tastes, fruits are usually the favoured source of vitamins and fibre for many. With such a wide variety that’s mostly sweet and easy on the palate, there’s sure to be something for everyone!
P. S. For fruits like apples and plums, eat them whole with the peel for extra fibre content!
As we all know (or at least, as we’re supposed to know), the general recommendation for healthy fruit intake is at least 400 grams per day.
That’s equivalent to 5 servings of one 80-gram cup each, with each serving roughly the size of a tennis ball. Doesn’t sound like much, does it?
However, for busy bees always on the go, or those who don’t have sufficient space or time to prepare your daily fruit servings, or if you just can’t be bothered (guilty as charged): here’s a lifesaver for you!
Dating back to 1700 B.C., dried fruits are not something new. Retaining most of the nutrients yet minus the hassle of preparing fresh fruits, dried fruits have long been a popular choice for healthy snacks.
Along with the advancement of technology in this sector, many more types of fruits can be dried and preserved, including those that you never could have imagined: melon, pineapple, lime and others.
Of course, one of the biggest perks of dried fruits is their shelf life. With these neatly packaged portions, you don’t have to stress so much over how long the fruits you bought yesterday (or was it last week??) can last before going bad.
Usually coming in ziplocked bags, these handy snacks are easily portable. You can just slip a packet or two into your bag without adding too much bulk or weight, and pop a few pieces into your mouth whenever you like.
Of course, balance is the key to life. As convenient as dried fruits can be (or as lazy as you can be), try to take fresh fruits and vegetables when you can too!
In the meantime, get yourself some dried fruits here to curb your snacking urges and keep you occupied before you find some fresh fruits 😉
